The snow is falling, okay so not that much (yet!) I don’t know about you but I truly hate the winter, the bulky clothing (yuck) the cold weather (double yuck) the snow needing to be shoveled (did I mention yuck). I can’t stand the winter, the only thing I like about winter is…Christmas! Some of the top things on my wish list this year are books, there’s nothing better than settling down on a cold winter night with a cup of hot cocoa and a great book. So here is my list of the top 4 books to read this winter, enjoy!
By: Terry Goodkind
This is by far one of my favorite reads of all time! This book tells of a place where magic still exists. There are dragons and witches and gars oh my! Wizards of light and dark magic, some more sinister then you will ever know. All you have to do is get through the boundary alive. I first read this book when I was a teenager and it captivated me even to this day. I have read this book so many times (at least 10 lol). Still, every time I read it, it makes me laugh as well as cry. It is just such an emotionally balanced, fascinating book.

A classic! A true coming of age tale. set in a post-apocalyptic Labrador. Eight friends set out on a journey to save mankind from themselves and their belief of what civilization “should be” in the eyes of God. That all things should only be in his true image and all else is blasphemy. First published in 1955 by Michael Joseph, The Chrysalids is hands down a book you need to read, if you haven’t already, you should do it this holiday season.

Book one Split Infinity, the lush magical dimension of Phaze or the scientific barren dimension of Proton. this book takes place in two dimensions occupying the same space. both dimensions contain an alternate self of every person born on Phaze/Proton. but if either dimension is lacking a duplicate the remaining person is able to cross between dimensions through an energy curtain. A very entertaining start to a series. I found myself fully immersed in both dimensions so much so that I binge read almost back to back the rest of the series. such a well-written series that I would recommend it to anyone torn between science or magic, real or make believe now you can get the best of both worlds!
A great, easy reading, book. Set in the future, where robots dominate the work industry. High school students upon graduation are given either a job or the job of unemployed. The working class is taught to hate the unemployed and the unemployed are taught to fend for themselves. What seems like a dark and dreary existence for seven friends living off the social welfare system, with only illicit drugs to look forward to. Living in an unsafe neighborhood where crime is abundant, Lisse and her six friends decide to turn to karate for their own protection. Until one night a mysterious man named Charlie appears and their lives are forever changed. An Invitation to the game turns their whole world upside down. I cannot put this book down every time I read it, such a great adventure for any age!

That is a great question. Unfortunately, I didn’t ask myself this very important question until later on in life, specifically just 2 years ago, I’m now 35 (old I know, my 6yr old tells me all the time). That was when I decided to finally find out what my credit score was (i was hoping to buy a house haha). Sadly it wasn’t good, but now I am on a mission. My mission is to find out as much as I can about credit what its uses are and ways to improve it. I hope I can also help you understand how to make your credit score/report healthy and keep it that way.
Credit is a consumer ability to get money in order to purchase items or pay for services when they are in need of, with a promise, based on trust, to pay at a later date. Sometimes the request for money can include a waiting or “approval period”. This approval period could be due to the consumer’s credit rating. A credit grantor has the final say in the approval process. Sometimes dictating the final loan amount as well as the accrued interest rate (depending upon the consumer’s credit score/history).
From what I have learned recently there are four different types of credit (*one of which I had never heard of until now)
A credit score is a numerical value based on your credit report. It can range from 300-900 depending on a number of factors listed below. Higher is always better, having a lower credit score could mean higher interest rates when applying for new credit or possibly being denied new credit altogether.
How your credit score is calculated.
A credit report is a breakdown of exactly what makes up your credit score. Here you can find your personal information, current address, previous address, employment information current/previous. A credit report can show you what you have outstanding in debts, loans, lines of credit and previous forms of credit. Here you can also find any inquiries, late payments, collections, public records as well as any derogatory/non-derogatory credit history you might have. Other things you can find here are your payment history and your credit utilization (balance-available balance ratio).
*If for any reason, you see any discrepancies on your credit report you should be sure to report them right away as they could change your credit score significantly.
High-interest loans or credit cards are the most prominent effects of a bad credit score. I recently got a loan (having a not-so-good credit score) which I will not name this company because I am not happy with their proceedings. This loan came with a 46.95% interest rate! can you believe that? 46.95% is insane, I was given a promise that after 6 months of on-time payments I would be given an interest reduction offer. It wasn’t what I expected. Guess how much they offered to reduce it by (see below)? Not what you would think.
Good credit can be used to make major purchases such as a new car or house, credit can also be, just a great convenience. Having good credit could be a deciding factor when applying for a new job or rental home, in that, it can show just how responsible you are and could be used in the final selection process.
I currently work full-time. At my full-time job, I work with a lot of teenagers. When I was discussing my ideas about what to talk about for my next blog post. I was talking about credit and what I had learned. That was when I was asked the biggest most important question ever, “what is credit for?” kids do not know. Why don’t they know? why don’t they teach the youth of today about credit? If credit is such a big part of the grown-up world, shouldn’t they know, shouldn’t we prepare the youth of today, the millennials to be financially aware? Are we just trying to set them up for failure? Something needs to change!

Get-togethers, family picnics or just another family outing. My favorite potluck staple has got to be by far the “Best Spinach Dip Ever” recipe. It can be paired with veggies, sour dough bread, potato chips, nachos. Or my favorite pumper nickel bread. For a low-calorie pairing try using toasted pita chips. No matter what you pair it with this dip is a classic crowd pleaser hands down.
I absolutely love this recipe, for an extra kick I like to add some sweet peppers,it is highly requested by my family. I prefer to use Hellman’s half the fat mayonnaise as well as fat-free sour cream. Lowering the calories and fat makes this delicious recipe even more enjoyable, without sacrificing the taste. Have you made this recipe?

As single parents I’m sure we’ve all had that call at least once; Mrs/Mr so-and-so, we have discovered that your child has lice. Duh, duh, duh! Not exactly the thing any parent likes to hear. That is why I have come to you today. I’ve had that call and let me tell you, lice are a dirty business, as well as very time-consuming. So for you single, stressed out parents I have created this post. The best treatment for head lice I hope it helps!
Head lice live in your hair near the scalp, close to their source of food, your blood. They live only when there is a source of food (they do not feed on animal blood). Lice can come from many places, a shared hat or brush, a bed where someone affected has recently been, as well as close contact with someone affected.
Be smart don’t share personal items!
The most common signs of head lice are excessive itching. As well as, sores that develop from scratching, irritability and difficulty sleeping.
What you need:
How it works:
Apply baby oil to hair, comb hair thoroughly to remove these little *bleeps.” Wash hair with laundry detergent and hot water. Saturate hair with white vinegar, cover with a shower cap or towel. Then most importantly, go to sleep. In the morning lather, rinse condition. Repeat for 3-4 days for best results.
What you need:
Olive oil (just olive oil)
Petroleum jelly (just petroleum jelly)
How it works:
Cover hair with a thick coating, apply a shower cap or towel. Then guess what? Go to sleep. Wake up (for olive oil) comb hair then wash with a herbal shampoo/tea tree oil mix. For petroleum jelly, use baby oil to remove jelly, comb those little “bleeps” out. Repeat 3-4 nights for best results.
What I need:
Tea tree oil-1 teaspoon
Natural shampoo-1 ounce
Coconut oil/olive oil-3 tablespoons
How it works:
Mix all three ingredients together, apply to your hair. Cover with a shower cap or towel. Don’t go to sleep, this one only needs about 30 minutes to work. When time is up, rinse with hot water and comb to remove lice.
I have tried these methods, all are very time-consuming but they work well if you repeat as necessary.
It is always very important, as with any treatment to remove the eggs. This will be the deciding factor between failure and success.
Being a single mom I know that all of these methods can work but are very time-consuming. Enter my secret weapon! Licefreee spray- instant head lice treatment. Sold on Amazon, distributed by The Online Drugstore-USA, at a very reasonable price of only $22.60 per 6oz bottle with free shipping. This product is fantastic! I tried it just a few months ago.
How it works:
All you have to do is thoroughly saturate the hair, wait for it to dry then comb out those pesky, dead, bugs and nits (eggs). Repeat treatment 7-10 days later and Voila lice free!
NOT ALL LICE TREATMENTS ARE CREATED EQUAL
In my honest opinion, all treatments work as long as you follow the directions to a T. For a major time saver though I thoroughly recommend Licefreee spray. It is quick, easy and very affordable (one bottle covered 4 heads). It also saved a lot of headache for me. If you sign up for amazon prime shipping is amazingly only 2 days (shipping normally takes about 1-2 weeks).,

If you are visiting my site you know that I am a single mother, kinda hard to miss lol. I think the role of a single parent has to be one of the hardest jobs in the world. I’m sure you can all relate, I have to be the full-time mommy, the maid, the chef (specializing in kid cuisine), doctor, monster Eliminator, entertainer, as well as full time bread winner (oh I almost forgot the chair my 5 yr old loves to sit on my lap). Being a single parent means being every single most important thing to your children. You are their rock!
Being their rock you want to create as many happy memories as possible. Vacations are a start. I think vacations are very important, they are a great time to just really connect with your family and be together, without the intrusion of work. They are also a way to learn new things about your children, your family, your life (because, our children, are our life). Staying connected should be a big part of any family!
My daughter’s father lives in a different province so once a year he comes to visit. Like I said before I have a very limited single income budget. I was able to book a hotel, pack a cooler full of food, enough to fill a bar fridge (to be honest it was mostly TV dinners and pizza pops), but my kids had a great time! there was a pool, free WIFI, free continental breakfast and a flat screen TV. I just searched for things to do in the area and BAM! vacation! so what are some of my favorite budget friendly vacation ideas you ask?
I’ve always had a soft spot in my heart for the beach. Most importantly being steps from the beach. I love having dinner than being able to walk to the beach and not have that long ride home after. Just walk back to your cottage/cabin/motel whatever you are able to afford (I don’t judge) and do it all over again the next day. One of my favorite sites I’ve used in the past to find these types of affordable accommodations on a budget is Booking.com. A great site and filter friendly. So whatever you are looking for is it free WIFI (my son), a pool (my two daughters) or a flat screen TV (me). You can find it all at a great rate!
Day-cations can be a great alternative to a full out vacation (think vacation minus the accommodation prices). Something I found just recently is called a CityPASS. The CityPASS is a great little bundle that includes passes to five different hot Toronto attractions, some of which are: The ROM, The Science Center, The CN Tower, Casa Loma as well as a choice between Ripley’s Aquarium or The Toronto Zoo. All passes are good for a full nine consecutive days, at a discounted rate. Why not experience them all?
Sometimes tight budget restraints mean you can’t go away for vacation, so why not stay-cay? Stay-cations are becoming more popular with low-income families. Taking time off from work is the most important part of a stay-cation. Just being able to say I would be working today but I’m not, feels really good. Not living in the day to day hustle and bustle, just having time to do whatever it is you want to do. some great activities for stay-cations include: taking the family out for a nice dinner, maybe renting a boat for a few hours, going fishing than coming home cooking up the fish on the BBQ. Having a fun extended family BBQ, playing cards together, or a nice little family hike, anything that gets the family together cause that’s what vacation is all about, family!
whatever it is you choose to do this summer for vacation, just remember being together is the most important part! What are your fondest family vacation memories as a child? comment below, you tell me yours and I’ll tell you mine!

My father Wesley Greig passed away in May of 2012, to cancer, it was his second time battling the disease. Cancer is a terrible word to me. I wish cancer was non-existent. Unfortunately, it is real. Losing a parent is one of the hardest things I have ever had to endure. The pain and anguish feel like they are going to crush your everything. I didn’t know what to do, I had never lost someone so close to me in my entire life. Do you know how it feels to lose a parent or someone really close?
Many people say there are 5 stages in the grieving process. I experienced them all but in a different way.
This was the second time my father had battled cancer so somewhere in the back of my mind, I thought “It’s OK he has beaten this before, everything will be OK” but it wasn’t, this time it was different.
I got angry at my dad. So angry. How could he not take care of himself? how could he just leave us like this? I also got angry with myself, I was angry that I didn’t know my dad better. When my dad was in the hospital he was asked “is there anywhere you want to see just one last time?” he said no. I didn’t know then that he had always dreamed about visiting Australia. I didn’t know. So how can he not want to see anything just one last time, was all I could think? It is your last time. I think he was just very tired.
I wished, I hoped and I prayed, I just wanted to believe that my dad would be OK. At the time I didn’t have much faith so I bargained with my self. I will do my best to get healthy so I don’t leave my children in the same place. If I do better he might get better, he has to get better. He didn’t get better.
I was so depressed, so upset. Why him? why me? I will never get to see him again just pictures, a ghost of his true self. Memories, just memories, memories I didn’t truly understand. Then I realized that memories are what are most important, remembering the good times past, the fun times and not the bad times ahead. So, grief-stricken, I created a Facebook page dedicated solely to Cherishing A Life And Not Mourning A Death. My dads first-ever Facebook page, I cried uncontrollably during this process. I thought this would help me with my acceptance, mostly it helped with my depression, as I was able to see the many posts made by friends and family, I finally learned just how loved and respected my dad was. How much he made a difference in peoples lives. I cried a lot!
I think the first stages of acceptance came after my fathers funeral. I’ve never had to endure something as heartbreaking as, after everything, seeing him without that spark of life. That wonderful life that ended way before its time.
My dad was a hardworking man who did everything he could to make our lives better. There were really good times but there were also really bad times. He was our father. I would do anything I could to bring him back. There is just no will strong enough to change the way of life.
I have a friend who has recently experienced the loss of a loved one. I thought I knew how she felt, I got this (I said to myself), but then I realized I didn’t. People grieve differently. I suddenly felt helpless. I wanted to try to cheer her up but I quickly saw that maybe that’s not what she needs.
Time heals everything. How much time is the question? Some people need more than others. Just remember it can be scary or frustrating but every grieving person needs someone, especially someone who is ready to not judge them.
Recognizing the 5 stages of the grieving process from above and realizing everyone goes through them differently, sometimes repeating stages is most important. The more familiar you are with these stages the better equipped you will be in helping your friends.
Some people are more resilient than others. You have to take into account the cause and length of time, before death. What your friend has experienced in the past. Their relationship to the loved one as well as the size of their support network. Make sure they know that you understand their individual needs.
Your friend may seem strong on the outside but they may be broken down on the inside but that’s alright. It’s OK to be human and vulnerable. Everyone is human, it’s OK to cry. That is how we deal with loss emotionally. Letting it out is better than locking it up.
Tree plantings, memorial services, writing letters, creating a Facebook page, remembrance gatherings as well as funerals are some of the best ways to memorialize. Keeping the good memories alive.
Although they may not know right away, don’t get frustrated. Just make sure they know you will be there wherever and whenever they think of something they need. Don’t get discouraged if they don’t need help right away, they will need something eventually just try your best to be there when they need you.
Just checking in from time to time can show a person you really care. Having someone really care can be one of the best supports in the grieving process. Even if it’s just a quick “how are you doing today?” text or phone call. Just let your friend know you will always be there.
Recently a new family member told me that a good way of showing you are there for your friend, is just by stopping by with a coffee or muffin and saying, how are you doing? This is a very powerful act. This could help them see how much you really care.
In my area, there are supports set up for just this reason or any other problem you might be having. So if you think you are in a mental health crisis or just need to talk, help is just a click or phone call away peel/Dufferin county crisis helpline Get Online Help Now>> or call 1-888-811-2222 open 24 hours a day 7 days a week, cause you are not alone. Talking can help.
Sometimes even the simplest of things can make a difference. Just before my dad passed away, my talented uncle Monty, wrote a song for him called In My Arms Again>> Get it on iTunes. I think it gave me another way of feeling the emotions that I really needed to feel and just helped let it all out. I can listen to this song over and over again. You can preview this song and more on the album I’m Gonna Live Until I Die>> Available on iTunes

WHY USE LICEFREEE SPRAY
Licefreee spray is a fantastic alternative to traditional lice treatments. It is safe, non-toxic and very user-friendly. All you have to do is spray and thoroughly saturate hair, allow the product to fully air dry. No need for nit picking, as Licefreee spray kills nits as well, but please remember some schools have a no nit policy (which is why they include their patented stainless steel nit comb).
THE GOOD AND THE BAD
I don’t really have anything bad to say. I love this product. It is so easy to use. 97% of reviews are positive, what else can I say. There is an odor that comes with its wonderful non-toxic lice killing qualities, it smells strongly of black licorice. personally, I don’t mind the smell, my kids don’t really care for it but I tell them to suck it up. LOL
CAN ANYONE USE THIS PRODUCT
Licefreee spray is so easy to use anyone can do it. The spray works on anyone from the ages of 6mths+. Licefreee spray is just two simple steps, saturate the hair and let air dry. Parents can easily use it on themselves, as well, cause yes parents can get lice too (probably not something you’d like to think about) but it happens.

Price: Starter membership $0 (how can you say no?)
Price: Premium membership $49 per month (still pretty darn good)
Owners: Kyle (nice guy), Carson (also a nice guy)
I have recently joined Wealthy Affiliate through a starter membership. The things I have learned through the starter membership can be mind-blowing. My Wealthy Affiliate experience, so far, has been quite the journey for someone who has no experience in affiliate marketing. I had previously never even realized that money can be made in so many ways online. I was very sceptical in the beginning, I was also very scared. What am I getting myself into? Is this a scam? Am I making a mistake? Well, let me tell you.
To be honest I didn’t have a clue what I was doing in the beginning. I have learned a lot though, through Wealthy Affiliate. Some things that I have learned are; anyone and I mean anyone, can create a website to market any idea or “niche” (niche is a target audience or “market”). A website can be created and made successful by everyone as long as you have the drive and passion to make it work. Anything you are interested in, it is guaranteed that there are at least 10, or more, people who are interested in the same thing as you. On the flip side, Wealthy Affiliate is not a get-rich-quick scheme and the community never claims to be. It is a career, a business, a passion. So if you are not ready to work and give it your all, and be prepared to be proud of creating something all your own. This might not be right for you!
Anyone can benefit from Wealthy Affiliate beginner/intermediate/pro, anyone because there are so many skill levels that WA supports. Any age, country or expertise, all are welcome. Any way you roll whether it be an iPhone/Android, IPad/tablet, Mac book/laptop or any desktop PC is compatible with WA. So come all to one of the biggest and most thorough introductory affiliate marketing programs in the world! (you’ll learn things you didn’t know you could learn).
The Site Rubix icon also offers a site comments section, site feedback and site support, in my opinion, site support is top of the line. They have heard from me a lot (like i said I’m new to this as well). There is also the 24/7 Live Chat, where you can ask questions or just network at any time with many professionals and newbies alike. Everyone is great in WA, they all just want everyone to get their piece of the pie. The owners at Wealthy Affiliate are awesome as well if at any time you have a problem or have lost your inspiration just private message Kyle or Carson (like I said both nice guys) and they will get back to you ASAP sometimes within minutes. You can tell they are there to help and want you to succeed.
Wealthy Affiliate, in my opinion, is a fantastic option for anyone young or old, beginner-advanced and everything in between. I love the 24/7 chat, I sometimes get caught up in it, I have met some pretty cool people. People that live near me or share some of my same interests. The WA community has given me a wonderful new appreciation of the affiliate marketing world. I joined on the starter membership but quickly signed up for premium. I am amazed daily at all the new things I have learned. Who would have thought that a single mother of three, like me, would be able to start their own business from the comfort of their own home? I didn’t but I’m doing it right now, as you read this. So my question now is are you ready, to start earning a second and hopefully a full-time income, are you? I wasn’t but I am now. Was this review helpful?
Please feel free to leave any questions or comments below, I will be sure to help you in any way I can.
Coping With-The Death Of A Parent
My father passed away in May 2012. It’s still so hard, remembering his laughter and his jokes. His smiling face still haunts my dreams, I miss him. He was such a hardworking man. He did it all for us, his family. My dad worked hard every day of his life to take care of us. I can’t imagine going to work every day and not seeing the family you are doing it for. It has to be so hard. Sadly that is my reality now!
Weekends only jobs should be obsolete, at least for single parents(during the school year). They have laws in Canada for working holidays and having paid time off. Why can’t they introduce a law for single working parents to at least get a shift premium for working weekends/shift work (12 hour shifts). Most people are trying to get out of the 9-5, I’m trying to get in so i have time for my children and time to finally work on my other baby, my online business. It kills me on a daily basis that my children don’t have at least one parent at home at all times. Being a single mother of three though there is nothing I can do. Right now i choose to be single i hardly have time for my children let alone another adult.
My last relationship was a special one. Got together and almost immediately started talking about having a baby. My mistake was, Why didn’t i realise that he was one of those people who don’t stay long. Enter my newest blessing, the baby of the family, my youngest daughter. Her father was a blessing in disguise (yes he left me alone with a one-year old just after my father passed away) but he also left me with our daughter. I wouldn’t trade her for anything.
Understanding what anxiety is
With the passing of my father came another curve ball…….anxiety! what the bloody heck? cause i needed more right? Anxiety is scary business. I’ve never had anxiety before in my life. I’ve experienced the other side of it before. My youngest daughters father experienced it, right in front of me, but I didn’t understand. How could I? I had never had that problem before. Why didn’t I know that when someone is experiencing anxiety it can be really real and it’s not all in your head. Why didn’t I know then, what I know now. Panic attacks and anxiety make you feel like you are stuck in your own mind and can’t get out. It can be very debilitating. Sometimes you can’t even leave the house for fear of having another panic attack. I received medication for the anxiety and panic attacks, after about a year, I was able to wean myself off of the meds. I will never ever doubt the realness of anxiety ever again, having lived through it!
My newest affliction-working with back pain
I am very clumsy! About a year ago I had a bad fall (not at work). Do any of you know what a sacrum is? I sure as heck didn’t until I bruised it! The sacrum is a very strong wedge shaped bone that doesn’t fully develop until around the age of 30. Being the solid base of the spine, it supports the weight of the upper body. The sacrum is the result of five vertebrae that join together to form a single bone. So of course I thought hey let’s injure that, this should be fun! Not really! Because I injured myself away from work I was not allotted a healing period and I went back to work the next day. I’m a single mother of three, I had no choice! Let me tell you it has been a rough year I wouldn’t even wish on my worst enemy, to have a bruised sacrum. It hurts like hell. I am still in pain but I have finally been referred to a physiotherapist, to help with the constant pain. Let’s hope this helps!
Where I’m at/wanna be
Having so much pain, I have been unable to play with my kids the way I want to. This has brought me to the realisation that they need me at home more. They need to see my face and feel my hugs. Have my attention. This has also started me on this year long path of research. I want to be home more. I need to be home more so I don’t miss all the little, or big things that happen. How can I do that? I want to work from home, like all those people you hear about making money online, but how can I? I want to be a singlemomworkingfromhome.com type of person, you know?
With their help
I have recently come across what I thought was just a website for affiliate marketing. I have realized I was wrong! It is not just a website but a full-blown community of like-minded professionals, who were once just like me and wanted a change. The chance to create your own business from the ground up. That community is Wealthy Affiliate! It is such a fantastic group of people in this community, they are all so helpful and understanding. It’s not a contest there, it’s an inspiration. Everyone really tries their best to help you succeed. There are many tools and classrooms as well, specifically designed to help you get to where you want to be, a business owner. It is not a get-rich-quick scheme by any means, you have to put in the work to see progress but if you ever get stuck you can just join the chat or enter a classroom and everyone will do whatever is in their power to help. I recommend Wealthy Affiliate to anyone who is ready to work hard to help make their dreams a reality! Don’t hesitate get your free 7 day trial today!
Wouldn’t you love to say you created a successful business on your own? Even with the doubters and the haters?
The only stupid question, is the question that wasn’t asked
So if you have anything to add, or questions please comment below. I will be sure to get back to you,
